Riverboat Hi-Lo: how it plays
Riverboat Hi-Lo is a card-by-card game of Higher or Lower played with one 52-card deck. A card is turned over and you call the next one: Higher, Lower or the Same rank. Every correct call grows the running value, and you choose when to Collect it in Pebbles, which have no money value.
Play Riverboat Hi-LoPlaying a round
- Choose your stake and press Deal. A fresh, shuffled deck is used for every round.
- Look at the card on the table and call the next one: Higher, Lower or Same.
- Each button shows what a correct call multiplies the running value by, and how many cards left in the deck would make it right.
- Call right and the running value grows; press Collect whenever you like to take stake × running value.
- Not keen on a card? Skip card swaps it for the next one without a call, up to 3 times a round.
What each call needs
| Call | Correct when the next card is | Equal rank |
|---|---|---|
| Higher | a higher rank than the current card | Ends the round |
| Lower | a lower rank than the current card | Ends the round |
| Same | the same rank as the current card | Correct |
Example: first call on a Seven with a full deck (51 cards left)
| Call | Cards that make it right | Pays |
|---|---|---|
| Higher | 28 of 51 | ×1.75 |
| Lower | 20 of 51 | ×2.45 |
| Same | 3 of 51 | ×16.32 |
Good to know
- Aces are high: an Ace beats a King. Suits do not count.
- Multipliers come from the cards still in the deck, so they change as cards are used. The first call of a round pays a little under the true chance; every later call pays the true chance of the cards left.
- A wrong call ends the round with no return. Collect is available after your first correct call.
- Calls that would multiply the value by less than ×1.01 are not offered.
- The running value is collected for you when it reaches ×1,000 or when the deck runs out.
- Every result is decided by your browser's cryptographic random number generator at the moment you play. Your account, level and earlier rounds make no difference.
- Without an account the game runs in demo mode with practice credits that are not saved. Signed-in players use their Pebbles.
- Pebbles have no cash value and cannot be bought or exchanged. If you run out, you can top up for free.
